As a Creative Life Coach, I’ve been amazed at how, through the years, Christians I’ve met have shared their inspired ideas and solutions for problems of every size, sort, and need, yet a high percentage never acted on any of them.

As a natural encourager and as a creative service provider, I’d share tools and techniques for acting on their dreams.  As a pastor, and now a professional Life Coach, I saw most of them drop their dreams and live out nightmares of hopelessness and anxiety instead!  Why?

I’ve come to call the beliefs that sabotage these inspired ideas and abundant living as “sacred cows”. Sacred cows are beliefs that appear to be holy, but in fact are law based thinking that has no real substance or proof, but because of the assumed punishments for not following these beliefs, people embrace them as true. One such sacred cow is “don’t question authority”.  (I think that one protects all the others.) It sounds like the obedient thing to do is to not even question this directive, yet, a better question is most certainly due … such as; “Who’s authority?”  There are many who are in a position of authority but do not respect nor carry true authority.

Years ago, when I was employed as a church secretary, and before I became co-pastor, I had the brilliant idea of adding a special feature to our church directory. Mind you, I had ulterior motives because I needed to solve a recurring problem. Hardly a day went by that someone didn’t call our offices and ask if I knew of a Christian service provider for one thing or another. Everything from babysitters to car mechanics, to doctors and tutors, was needed. Surely there was someone in the church that knew how to fulfill their needs!

Find out why your vision may be hard to articulate and share with others.

Understanding how your vision develops, helps others to get on board.

Many times it begins with a life altering moment. A need is revealed or experienced and solving that needs becomes a life calling that does not fade with time. In fact, it continues to grow and urges you to create something that must exist and which will solve that problem.

This is a Big, Hairy Audacious Goal, (BHAG) or dream.

As all artist’s of great things know, sometimes its nearly impossible to articulate the finished masterpiece – you simply have to show people.

Freedom in the journeyThis question was asked of me recently, “If I plan my own future, isn’t that planning with my own will? If God is ordering my footsteps, shouldn’t I wait for HIM to tell me what to do?”

The beauty of such a question is the humble heart in which this question was asked. This person truly desires to walk in God’s will, yet sees a need to plan a future. When is the planning of God and when is it not?

DreamingAs long as I can remember, I’ve been acutely aware of my very colorful and realistic dreams. I suppose it comes with the territory of being an artist … or maybe I just decided to pay closer attention to them.

There have been times that I have had a dream and it actually came to pass. The most profound dream of all involved my family and unfolded over a span of twenty five years.

Dreams are filled with symbolism. As an artist and cartoonist, I think in pictures on a continual basis, so the metaphors and images that appear in dreams are a fascinating conversation that I pay close attention to.
