Angry rebuke

Have you been taught that in order to “fight Satan” you need to rebuke him?

When you are being “beat-up” by “the enemy” are you frustrated, because no matter how much you say, “I rebuke you Satan in the name of Jesus.” … nothing seems to happen that changes the circumstance?

Maybe it’s just me. For a long time, I blamed myself for not having enough faith. In addition, I wondered why so many people were so holy that Satan spent all of his time “beating them up” yet, I never really saw evidence of these people leading such holy lives that they were even a threat to Satan (the enemy)… including myself!

Lunar eclipseThe night was chilly and crisp, the skies clear and the mountains to the west glowed an eerie silver blue-gray in the twilight. My two children, husband and I were wrapped up in blankets, standing or sitting on the deck of our home in Colorado, faces lifted toward the moon.  This was the night we were to see the much talked about Lunar Eclipse.  For what seemed an eternity, we stood in the cold fighting stiff necks to see what we might only see in a lifetime.  The moon was brilliant that night with not a cloud hindering our vision.  The light reflected by the sun was almost blinding, and looking through binoculars, we all agreed, the moon was breathtaking!

Sheep eating plantRecently a friend sent me an article about this unusual and deadly plant. Everything about this living organism shouts METAPHOR!

How well I know a wide range of individuals within churches of all denominations who patiently wait their time to feed on unsuspecting ‘sheep’ or fellow Christians.

At first appearance, they seem harmless enough, with their rich, healthy glow and sleek, green leaves. But you will find that if you get too close these individuals, they will not be who you first thought them to be.

Church building

Hey! Here’s a good one …

After inquiring about a ministry project that a fellow minister was working on, I received a stream of excuses about why they had not progressed since the last time I’d asked.

First it was that the devil was beating them up. (Amazingly, this had been occuring every three months, for three months at a time, for the past ten years) I finally just stopped asking about the battle.

This time it was a new approach. After having asked a few key questions about why the devil was so busy beating them up, I heard a different line of reasoning that pertained to their cautious approach and indecisiveness in how to proceed next.

Have you ever asked a dear Saint, “How are things with you?” and then received the reply of, “Man, I tell you, the devil is really beating us up.”

You ask what is going on, and they continue with a flourish, all the gory details of conflict, crisis and disasters.  “Wow,” you think (and are led to believe) … and in fact, may respond with …. “You must be really doing something right to get beat up like that!”

Wait …
