On Hold, Stuck or Numb? How To Break Free and Live Again

It’s not just the pastor’s wife that gets lost in her world and wonders from time to time what her dream use to be.  In fact, just remembering your name can be a feat on certain days!

Before you can teach anyone else something, you must have first walked that path and teach from experience. Anyone can teach method or theory, but eventually, whether you believe and walk it out or not, will manifest in your life for all to see.

Thinking Woman

Self Limiting Beliefs

Blockages are the result of self-limiting beliefs. Every time you begin to notice that you “aren’t getting anywhere” or notice that you are constantly getting the same results, it’s time to uncover your self-limiting beliefs.

Many of the thoughts and emotions that we entertain on a daily basis are actually habitual. The payoff for remaining in those negative mindsets are subtle. (we always have a payoff for what we do, or we wouldn’t do it.)

Payoffs for entertaining limiting beliefs are:

  • The right to be “right” (even if it means clinging to your pain)

Noticing What You Notice

Each new year brings the promise of fresh beginnings, re-setting goals that weren’t accomplished as you had hoped they would be, and new aspirations.

That to-do and to-be list that you are writing in your mind and thoughts can be your best friend … or worse enemy.

We are all familiar with the ‘worse enemy’ aspect. It’s that nagging voice in the back of your mind that reminds you of what you HAVEN’T accomplished, what you SHOULD be doing and what you are NOT DOING 0r who you are not. It feeds off the negative beliefs and perceptions that your parents, teachers, friends and other opinions that have been spoken to you or around you.

Perfect Peace is a Choice

Every one of us has, or is, or will face a challenge so great, we aren’t sure that we’ll be able to maintain our “sanity” riding out the storm.

Whether it is a financial situation, a relationship, health or some other sudden or growing crisis, our peace hangs in the balance. Truly, our relationship with Christ will be challenged in every way. We’ll discover who we truly trust (ourselves, the doctors, the CPA, friends, or He Who Redeems.)

Too Fast and Furious Too

Hey! Here’s a good one …

After inquiring about a ministry project that a fellow minister was working on, I received a stream of excuses about why they had not progressed since the last time I’d asked.

First it was that the devil was beating them up. (Amazingly, this had been occuring every three months, for three months at a time, for the past ten years) I finally just stopped asking about the battle.

This time it was a new approach. After having asked a few key questions about why the devil was so busy beating them up, I heard a different line of reasoning that pertained to their cautious approach and indecisiveness in how to proceed next.

My Journey … Part 4

Fast forward many years…

Shannon singing during praise and worshipI’m standing on the platform with the praise team. Singing is a joy to me, and unlike my cartooning talent, my musical talent is passable, but not nearly as gifted or refined.

As the pastor’s wife, I felt incredibly honored and blessed to be working with one of the most gifted musicians and musical mentors I’ve ever met. Our worship leader was one of those rare individuals who listen deeply – not just at the notes you are singing, but at who you are as an individual. He was a teacher of music in the school system too, which completely makes sense, because he had an uncanny ability to bring out the best in everyone and create harmony not only in music but with the individuals themselves.
